At the risk of jinxing my plans, I'll be heading to Iowa next weekend to hang out in a friend's hometown. I was planning a long weekend to South Dakota, but things fell through with my friends. (No hard feelings, in case you're reading this! We'll do it next spring.)
So now it's Io-way for me! Via Nebraska...very wide Nebraska. However, I have been meaning to remedy the way I ignored middle America on my grand road trip. It's about time I suffered through visited Nebraska. And Iowa. It's definitely time for a visit to Carhenge. I mean, I've already seen Fridgehenge, so what comes after these? Are there any more henges?
And this weekend I'll be house/dog/cat/fish-sitting for a family from my church. Last-minute, but it sounds like fun. Plus they have huge TVs, tons of DVDs and a garden I can pilfer at will. Hello, rhubarb pie!
hey, there's nothing wrong with Nebraska. Take an hour or so to stop in Omaha and enjoy the Old Market area. The zoo there is pretty faboo if you ever have more time in Omaha.
Oh, and Ashfall! It's a neat archaeological dig in north-central NE.
It won't be so bad. Really. You've made it across Montana many a time, and Montana is just as monotonous.

I think you have neglected a 'henge' that we may have already (?) visited:

Not as bizarre as the car and fridge versions, but still interesting.

Kierstin and I actually really liked parts of Nebraska as we drove through. Where else can you see that big huge arch going over the interstate? Or the birthplace of Kool-aid? Actually, that wasn't worth the side trip. One of the original pony express stations is fun (gothenburg). I think that was where Kierstin decided Nebraska wasn't so bad. I am also a fan of any roadfood.com stops.
Oh, and Chimney Rock is along the way - remember Oregon Trail?

How close will you be to Minnesota? :)
