When I'm busy or feeling overwhelmed, I make a list: a to-do list, a grocery list, a schedule for the day or week, a work list, a school list, any kind of list. And even if I immediately crumple up the list and throw it away, I feel better, less scattered, more composed.
I have lists in my planner, lists on my kitchen table, lists on a dry-erase board, lists at work, lists at home, lists typed into documents, lists in my mind. In order to remember things, and sometimes in order to know them, I have to write them down. Either my brain matter is more importantly occupied, or it's not functioning at all.
Just think, you can have lists of lists. I haven't quite attained that status.
